During an initial day in office, Zohran Mamdani vowed to “transform” the metropolis, declaring “a new era” and an ambitious beginning to his tenure.

A Historic Figure

The young political star, who was a relatively obscure state assemblyman, is the city's first mayor born in Africa. He additionally marked a milestone by being the first to be take the oath of office using the Islamic holy text.
