The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players looking for alternative ways to enjoy the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.

Community Responses: From Fury to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
