One of the original creators behind the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has claimed that parent company the multinational conglomerate stopped the introduction for a new Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, who co-founded the business with his partner, disclosed that he plans to personally create the controversial flavor as part of an individual series showcasing issues the company has been barred from speaking out about.

Longstanding Dispute Between Founders versus Corporate Owner

The recent announcement escalates the continuing disagreement among the internationally recognized dessert company with its corporate parent, the UK-based consumer goods giant which acquired Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

The co-founders have claimed that the parent company along with their ice cream division the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked their company against "maintaining its activist principles".

The Fruit Sorbet becoming a Symbol of Support

Mr. Cohen announced through social media how he is creating an innovative watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas for naming options plus potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen stated from a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that calls for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem for solidarity with the Palestinian people because of its colors, which closely resemble the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement plus Recent Developments

In 2021, the ice cream company ceased sales of its products in areas occupied by Israel, leading to the parent company transferring the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thus allowing continued sales within disputed territories.

This upcoming product line is being developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand which originally created several years back to support former US presidential candidate Senator Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Management Changes and Future Intentions

The founder stated that he plans to create additional ice cream flavors that address issues that Ben & Jerry's was silenced from addressing publicly by Unilever.

This development comes after partner Jerry Greenfield resigned his position at the company in September, following decades of involvement, mentioning concerns regarding how its independence had been compromised after Unilever's decision to restrict their advocacy work.

At that time, Ben Cohen stated how "Jerry has a really big heart and this conflict with our parent company was breaking it."

“My conscience compels me to continue to work within the organization to fight for corporate autonomy so that the company can achieve its ethical purpose, the principles which established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he told media outlets.
